What’s it all about? Djerriwarrh (jerra-worra) Health Services (DjHS) delivers public healthcare to residents living in one of the Australia’s largest growing urban corridors. We are based 45 kms west of Melbourne - about half way between Melbourne CBD and Ballarat with our clients living between Caroline Springs and Bacchus Marsh.
This annual event is important for several reasons: - promotes awareness of the health services available to a new and growing community throughout Bacchus Marsh, Melton and Caroline Springs.
- generates much needed funds specifically targeting improvements for patient benefit (last years’ funds were directed to upgrading our Grant Lodge facilities for improved comfort and amenities for the elderly and frail).
It is worth noting that the 2006 car show was successful due to the widespread support enjoyed by DjHS. Loyalty and passion to maintain and improve the "local" health capability has been demonstrated time and again, most recently by the direct community funding of $750,000 for a much needed Emergency Department. The facility has since catered for approx 6000 incidents last year and is growing.
The good story… It all started through the kind family of a long time benefactor, Mr David Calleja. David was an influential business man with significant pride in his local community. After his untimely death in late 2004, the family decided that it would be his wish to continue assisting the health service he supported and attended. David was an avid car collector and had a significant stable of rare and unique cars which the family provided as an initial attraction for a fund raising memorial car show which then occurred in January 2006.
The result was outstanding in that it generated funds through great community participation, which is a value we need to promote more in these somewhat uncertain times. The success also determined that the event should not only continue, but expand with a car rally on the day preceding the car show.
We therefore unashamedly seek your support for a cause that assists us directly impact the quality of life of people of all ages and all origins that are in need of health help, preferably by intervention rather than trauma care.
